Magnets Shifting Design of Dual PM Excited Vernier Machine for High-torque Application

In this study, a novel dual permanent magnet excited vernier machine (DPMEVM) with magnets shifting in stator is proposed. Compared the conventional synchronous (PMSM), DPMEVM based on bidirectional field modulation effect can operate wider torque range. However, ripple of high because superposition generated by stator-side and rotor-side PMs. Consequently, proposed to further reduce ripple. First, topologies working principles baseline machines are introduced. Second, torque-contribution harmonics analyzed calculated using Maxwell tensor method. The calculation results reveal that DPMEVM, benefiting from multiple harmonics, offer an enhanced capability compared PMSM. addition, characteristics analyzed. It verified be significantly reduced through shifting. Third, performances terms flux density, open-circuit back-EMF, characteristics. principle extended same unit motor. Finally, 120s-110p prototype manufactured for validation.
